Thomas A. Gurtner, CPA
Tom Gurtner serves as the managing partner for the audit practice. Tom has over 25 years of experience in public accounting, including years as an Audit Partner and a Managing Partner at Deloitte & Touche and a member of the Central European Financial Institutions Group. He was based in Central Europe from 1996 till 2006 serving banks and other financial institutions.
He worked in London and in a number of countries in Central Europe and in Russia. He has wide experience of the operations and activities of commercial and savings banks and has advised managements in connection with the requirements and demands of the privatization process, restructurings; and acquisitions and mergers. He is expert in the disclosures required of banks under US GAAP and International Accounting Standards.
In his professional audit capacity, Tom has experience with the banking market having served First Trust Corporation, Gulf South Bank, Hancock Holding Company and the U.S. Community Credit Union Revolving Loan Fund. He has also served over 40 financial institutions Europe including many international banks like Erste Bank (Austria), SEB Bank (Sweden) and Swedbank (Sweden). He also served on an engagement that involved the liquidation audits of numerous savings
Kathleen H. Zuniga, CPA

Kathleen, recently left Deloitte & Touche after 18 years, the last five of which she served as a partner in the audit practice. She is a partner in the audit practice of Silva Gurtner & Abney.
She has extensive experience serving financial institutions and financial services clients from non-public closely held banks to SEC registrants. Most recently, she served as the 2nd partner audit quality reviewer for two SEC registrants, Prosperity Bank and Sterling Bank based in Houston, Texas. She is an expert in the disclosures required of banks under US GAAP and SEC financial reporting. She also previously served Teche Holding Company and Hancock Holding Company.
Kathleen has taught professional courses and seminars throughout her career, and has also served as an adjunct professor for the Accounting Department at the University of New Orleans. She also conducts CPE at various professional conferences and local organizations such as the American Society of Women Accountants and the Junior League of New Orleans.
Kenneth J. Abney, CPA, MS Tax
Ken Abney, our Partner in charge of Tax Services, has over 20 years of tax experience with corporation, not-for-profit, individual, partnership and fiduciary income taxes. Ken has concentrated his practice in tax planning and compliance for closely-held businesses and individuals, assisting them with any changes and new legislation that will impact them.
Ken has extensive experience with Louisiana’s business incentives including the Enterprise Zone, industrial tax exemption and restoration tax abatement programs, as well as federal and state New Market Tax Credits and related financing. In addition, Ken has significant experience in tax issues related to healthcare organizations as well as low income housing, historic and rehabilitation tax credits and the related cost certification audits. Ken also served as the 2008-2009 term as President of the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants.
